Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. The role includes evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients upon discharge. The therapist operates various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive, to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. They also perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning, adhere to monitoring protocols, assist with diagnostic tests, and ensure comprehensive patient care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Explain procedures and equipment to patients and provide necessary education upon discharge.
• Conduct prescribed treatments using various respiratory care equipment.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and patient suctioning by various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography.
• Review patient chest x-rays and assist in various respiratory procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial punctures as needed.
• Document patient responses and treatment details accurately.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding patient care.
• Maintains respiratory therapy charging and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist. Knowledge of BLS and ACLS guidelines is required. Experience with ventilatory equipment and various respiratory procedures is preferred.
