Job Description
The competent Pediatric Cardiac Nurse practices independently in a clinical setting, providing both routine and complex care. The nurse must possess a strong ability to manage contingencies in clinical nursing and make appropriate assignments to support the clinical team.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
- Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administers medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients and families.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA only) are required.
- RN License in the state of Texas or compact.
- Must have Pediatric cardiac experience, including knowledge of chest tubes, pacing wires, ventilators, and vasoactive infusions.
