Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory therapy and assisting with patient transport as medically prescribed and within the scope of professional license with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patient needs and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explaining treatment purposes and procedures to patients and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conducts physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications.
• Performs chest physiotherapy and assists with secretion clearance using specialized equipment.
• Utilizes various methods for patient suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitors oximetry and capnography according to established policies.
• Reviews patient chest x-rays and performs pulmonary function studies.
• Assists with respiratory care procedures as per policy.
• Performs tracheostomy care and manages endotracheal tube insertion and removal.
• Conducts arterial punctures and assesses ventilation efficiency.
• Records and documents all pertinent treatment information in patient charts.
• Communicates effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient therapy.
• Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and data management.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Knowledge of BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Experience with ventilatory equipment and respiratory care procedures.

Schedule

This position operates on a night shift schedule, working three 12-hour shifts each week.
