Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, all within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining treatment purposes and procedures, and providing necessary education upon discharge to home.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory and aerosol equipment.
- Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
- Administer suctioning through oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
- Monitor oximetry and capnography as per policy.
- Conduct routine reviews of patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation.
- Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
- Assist with respiratory care-related procedures, including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and more.
- Perform adequate drainage of the chest via appropriate devices.
- Provide tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
- Carry out arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
- Adhere to policies for laboratory testing and quality control.
- Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Set up and test ventilatory equipment and maintain mechanical ventilation.
- Record pertinent information related to treatments and patient responses.
- Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficacy.
- Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and data entry.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Certifications
Current Respiratory Therapist license and certifications in BLS and ACLS are required.
