Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, while operating within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. This role requires evaluation of patients and the recommendation of appropriate treatment plans, including the explanation of treatment purposes and procedures to patients. Education is also provided upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using various methods.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography.
• Review patient chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with procedures related to respiratory care, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial punctures as needed.
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain and operate mechanical ventilation equipment, ensuring efficient function.
• Document treatment details and patient responses in respiratory care records.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Ohio and Kentucky licenses preferred.
