Respiratory Therapist - Critical Care/NICU

Nights; 36 hours/week

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist will ensure that Respiratory Therapy services are rendered in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner to inpatients, outpatients, UHS staff, affiliates, and community groups as needed.

Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed by management.
• Perform Aerosol Therapy treatments.
• Conduct CPT/Flutter/PEP Mask therapy for secretion mobilization.
• Execute Incentive Spirometry therapy.
• Administer M.D.I. therapy and suctioning procedures.
• Facilitate extubation procedures and oxygen therapy on approved devices.
• Manage BiPAP-CPAP therapy and alarms.
• Perform Cough Assist/Vest therapy and manage high flow cannula/humidifier therapy.
• Conduct Pulmonary Function Screen diagnostic procedures and fit testing.
• Carry out pulse oximetry and adult/pediatric EKG procedures.
• Administer Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal BLS life support.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms.
• Perform arterial puncture and analysis for blood gas laboratory.
• Conduct quality control for the blood gas laboratory.
• Manage patient healthcare information system (Soarian) and medication administration programs (MAK).
• Verify physician's written orders for pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Record and report results of all procedures appropriately.
• Assist in departmental in-service programs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Up to three (3) years of experience in a critical care setting, particularly NICU.
• Experience with V60 BiPAP and 980 Puritan Bennett Ventilators.
• New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS Certification from American Heart Association (AHA).
