Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures and treatments, and educating patients upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conducts physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment and devices.
• Performs chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Executes suctioning by different methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitors oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Reviews patients' chest x-rays to determine further evaluation needs.
• Performs pulmonary function studies and assists with procedures related to respiratory care.
• Conducts tracheostomy care and manages arterial punctures.
• Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Documents relevant information of treatments and patient responses in care records.
• Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians on therapy effectiveness.
• Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and performs data entry.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid respiratory therapy license as required by state regulations.
