Respiratory Therapist - Day Shift

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patient conditions and recommends treatment plans, ensuring to explain purposes and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, while also providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and suctioning by various methods.
• Conduct oximetry and capnography monitoring per policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation needs.
• Perform pulmonary function studies and assist with related procedures, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Manage tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor the efficiency of ventilation.
• Follow laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and quality controls.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy records and communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficiencies.
• Facilitate equipment maintenance and report necessary information during shift transitions.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Must possess appropriate licensure and certifications relevant to respiratory therapy.
