Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, all while operating within the scope of their professional license with minimal supervision. The role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients on the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
• Administer oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer treatments to deliver prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning via various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Create and monitor oximetry and capnography assessments according to policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays and conduct 12-Lead EKGs with basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Carry out pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care-related procedures (e.g., bronchoscopy, chest tube placement).
• Manage tracheostomy care and perform arterial punctures as per policy.
• Document all pertinent treatment information and communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding patient care.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of ventilatory equipment.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Relevant licensure as a respiratory therapist is required.
