Job Description

The Clinical Educator for Maternal Child Health is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the orientation process for all new Maternal Child Health (MCH) employees. This position will also oversee the continuing education for established staff and will work collaboratively with Unit leadership to adhere to the Nursing Professional Development standards. The Clinical Educator will take on the responsibilities of a registered nurse on the MCH floor when needed due to high census or inadequate staffing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the orientation process for all new MCH employees, providing written updates at 30- and 60-day intervals in preparation for the 90-day introductory evaluation.
  • Maintain educational documentation and checklists for all MCH employees in preparation for Joint Commission/Department of Health surveys.
  • Educate and update staff on policy changes, new equipment, and process updates within the department and organization through the development of educational materials.
  • Provide Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training and coordinate annual CPR/ACLS for MCH staff.
  • Coordinate annual unit skills days, ensuring documentation of staff participation.
  • Identify high-risk procedures/topics and coordinate drills to reach the majority of staff across various shifts.
  • Serve as the point person for new products, equipment, processes, troubleshooting, and recalls.
  • Interface with bioengineering for equipment problems and with IT for new equipment implementation.
  • Fill in on the floor during busy times or staff shortages as directed by MCH Leadership.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Master’s Degree in Nursing Education preferred.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Maternal Child Health nursing.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Core competencies in all areas of the department and proficient computer skills.
  • Current New York State RN license.
