Job Description
The Mother Baby unit is a 21 private room unit that provides care for postpartum mothers, stable antepartum patients, and well or slightly ill newborns. Nurses are trained to care for patients both on the floor and in the Level 1 Nursery (NBN), managing conditions such as mild Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), hypoglycemia, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for postpartum mothers and newborns.
- Manage mild RDS, hypoglycemia, and other neonatal conditions.
- Deliver lactation support and education to breastfeeding families.
- Administer IV antibiotics and conduct cardiac monitoring.
- Perform discharge teaching for new parents.
- Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary support activities.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 2 years of RN experience required; 1 year in a relevant specialty preferred.
- Must possess a valid WV or Compact RN license.
- BLS and NRP certifications required; CLC certification preferred.
- Experience in maternal and neonatal care preferred.
