Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, functioning within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining the purpose and procedures of treatments and tests, and providing necessary education upon discharge.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications and ensure proper ventilation and oxygenation.
- Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and conduct suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
- Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography according to policy.
- Review patients' chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies as required.
- Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
- Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency, documenting and reporting results accurately.
- Follow laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and quality control.
- Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines and manage mechanical ventilation tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses, and communicate effectively with the medical team.
- Ensure proper equipment maintenance and report any issues as needed.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Candidates must possess a valid respiratory therapy license and relevant certifications to perform required duties competently.
