Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. This role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, while explaining procedures and equipment to patients and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine treatments using various ventilatory equipment, including both invasive and non-invasive devices.
• Administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation as prescribed.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using various methods to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct oximetry and capnography monitoring per policy guidelines.
• Review and evaluate patient chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist in respiratory care procedures, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Conduct 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Perform tracheostomy care and manage arterial punctures effectively.
• Engage in cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate documentation of treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records.
• Communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and report necessary information during hand-offs.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of ventilatory equipment.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Relevant experience in a clinical setting preferred.
