Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. The role includes evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, along with educating patients on procedures, treatments, and home care upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography, and review patient chest x-rays for further evaluation.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal (emergent and non-emergent).
• Ensure proper arterial puncture technique and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Follow laboratory testing policies including specimen handling, documentation, and quality controls.
• Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines and manage mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Document treatments and patient responses accurately in the respiratory care records and patient charts.
• Communicate effectively with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and report vital information during hand-offs.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid Respiratory Therapy licensure and relevant certifications are required.
