Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by administering intensive respiratory care, transporting patients as medically prescribed, and operating under minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explains procedures and treatments to patients, and provides home discharge education.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory and aerosol equipment.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography, and review chest x-rays to assess patient progress.
• Execute pulmonary function studies and assist with procedures relating to respiratory care.
• Provide adequate drainage via PleurX catheter and tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency, recording all pertinent treatment details.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians about therapy efficiency.
• Ensure accurate charging for respiratory services, including data entry and error correction.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment.

Schedule

This position operates on a Night 3x12.0 schedule.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist licensure as required by the state.
• Experience with ventilatory equipment and care procedures.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS.
