- No Trauma Designation
- Non-Teaching Hospital
- Chest Pain Center
- Certified Stroke Center
- Radius Rule: Candidates must reside 50 miles from the facility
Unit Details
- Unit Assignment: Assigned to a home unit during orientation
- Primary Unit Example – 3N Medical Telemetry:
- 31 beds
- Experience Required: Minimum 18 months Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- First-Time Travelers: Not preferred, but may be considered
Patient Population
- End-stage renal disease (ESRD), peritoneal dialysis (PD)
- Fluid overload
- Sickle cell disease
- Diabetes mellitus (DM)
- Altered mental status
- Cellulitis
- Diabetic ulcers
- Pancreatitis
- Behavioral health
Staffing & Ratios
- RN: 1:5–6 (up to 1:7–8 during surge)
- CNA: 1:6–12
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Required
- NIHSS (Stroke certification) – Required
Required Skills
- Strong Med/Surg Telemetry skillset, including:
- Stroke care and neuro assessment
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Tracheostomy care
- Peripheral IV (PIV) insertion
- Chest tube management
- NG tube placement
- Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexi-Seal, Foley catheterization)
- PCA pump management
- Experience managing:
- Cardiac drips
- Heparin infusions
- Blood products
- IV fluids
Department Support
- CNAs: Patient care and ADL support
- Unit Secretary/HUC: Available
- Charge Nurse: May or may not carry a patient assignment
- Phlebotomy: Peripheral blood draws
- IV/VAT Team: Available (11:00 AM–7:00 PM & 11:00 PM–7:00 AM)
- Resource Nurse: Available as staffing allows
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Hospitalist: 24/7
- Intensivist Coverage:
- In-house until 11 PM (Mon–Fri)
- Until 7 PM (Sat–Sun)
- Additional virtual/on-call coverage
- Telemetry Monitoring: Not available on unit
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: Epic
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Philips
Floating
- Required within facility and regional locations based on need
- Must be willing to float within scope of practice
- Possible regions include:
- Region 1: Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, Levine Children's Hospital – peds only)
- Region 2: Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Central Division
- Region 3: Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, Central Division
- Travelers are paid for travel time if floating mid-shift
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- 2 days unit/department orientation
Scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-Call: Not required
- Holiday Requirement: 75% of holidays
- RTO: Up to 6 days (excluding holidays; may require contract extension to meet hours)
- Schedule Cycle: 6 weeks
