JOB DESCRIPTION
RN - PEDS

● About Facility:
· 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157
· 885 licensed beds
· Level 1 Trauma Designation
· Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
· Chest Pain Center
· Stroke Center
● Unit Information:
· Beds: 16 on PHO and 16 on PA
▪ Average 14-32 patients per day
· Minimum Years of Experience required?
▪ PHO: 1 year in Pediatric hem/oncology acute care
▪ PA: 1 year in pediatric acute care
· Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, with a strong pediatric background
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
· Leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, general adolescent medicine
● Patient Ratios:
· RN:
▪ Peds Adolescent Medicine – 1:4-5
· CNA: 1:6-16
● Required Licensure & Certifications:
· PA: BLS, PALS preferred
● Skills required:
· Central line management, chemo administration, strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking.
● Support within the Department:
· CNA: vital signs, ADL, safety rounding, I&Os
· Receptionist/HUC
· Charge nurse
· Phlebotomy
· IV/VAT Team - for difficult peripheral access
· Resource Nurse: availability varies
· RT, 24/7
· Hospitalist, 24/7
· Intensivist, 24/7
· Bedside telemetry monitoring, no Tele tech is available.
● Technology/Equipment:
· EMR: Epic
· IV Pump: Alaris
· Med dispensing: Omnicell
· Monitors:
· Unit specific equipment:
● Floating: If yes, where?
· Will work routinely between PA and PHO and other units in Brenner except Peds ED.
● Orientation (facility and unit):
· NEO
· 2 days departmental
● Scheduling:
· Weekend rotation: every other
· No on call requirement
· Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
· RTO: NM
· Shift times: 7p-7a
· Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
● Other notes:
· Scrub Color: Royal blue, can wear pediatric appropriate scrub top
· Parking: Free
· Unit Culture: Team oriented, supportive, and family centered. High emphasis on professional growth, education and safety.
