JOB DESCRIPTION:
RN - Postpartum/GYN
About Facility:
- 304 Turner McCall Blvd, Rome, GA 30165
- 361 licensed beds
- Level III NICU
- Level 2 Trauma Designation
- Teaching Hospital? Yes, Residency Program
- Chest Pain Center
- Stroke Center
- Unit Information:
- Census: Average patients/day: 180-200 deliveries per month
- Beds: 21; unit under construction summer of 2026. Will go down to 16 beds 5 bed overflow area if needed
- Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years of Mother/Baby/Postpartum experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Post-delivery moms and babies, diabetes, hypertensive/pre-eclampsia, NICU moms
- No insulin or mag drips, but will accept Pitocin drips
- Antepartum (experience preferred) – newly pregnant and sick, 28-week ruptured membranes, overflow GYN surgeries (hysterectomies)
Patient Ratios:
- 1:3-4 couplets. Could occasionally have Antepartum patients in assignment
- Required License, National Certification, Certs:
- BLS, NRP
Skills required:
- Couplet care, newborn assessment, 24h testing, heel sticks, care of mom and baby, bilirubin babies, blood sugar babies,
- Baby Nursery aka "Baby Lounge” available but rooming in model highly encouraged.
- EPIC experience required
- If have experience being "Stork Nurse” and helping with deliveries, this is preferred but not required
Support within the Department:
- Stork RN – attends all deliveries and helps with postpartum care. If delivery is high-risk, NICU RN attends
- 2 lactation consultants here during the day, not available at night. Will meet with breastfeeding moms
- CNA: Yes, typically 2 per shift
- Receptionist/HUC 24/7 – will also do CNA duties
- Nursing Techs – RN students who can do CNA duties plus a little more
- Charge nurse 24/7 – reduced patient assignment
- Resource RN dedicated to Women/Children almost every night
- Phlebotomy 24/7 for peripheral lab draw for adults
- RT 24/7
- NNP 24/7
- Neonatologist during the day; on call at Night if needed

- EMR: EPIC – required
- ICU Medical
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Unit specific equipment: Panda warmers
- Floating: If yes, where: None
- Orientation (facility and unit):: NEO
- 3 shifts of unit orientation
