Job Title: NICU RN
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Details: 12hr Night Shift (36 hours/week) – 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM | Every other weekend | No call | 75% Holiday requirement
Job Summary:
The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill and premature newborns in a fast-paced Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The RN will manage high-acuity patients, support families, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced neonatal care.
Facility Overview:
- 885 adult beds | 196 pediatric beds
- Level I Trauma Center
- Academic Teaching Hospital
- Chest Pain & Stroke Center
Department Overview:
- Level IV NICU
- Average daily census: 71
- Patient population: 23 weeks gestation to term infants
- First-time travelers accepted
- Manager interview required
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care to critically ill neonates
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients
- Administer medications and blood products
- Assist with and manage pre/post-surgical neonatal care
- Perform neonatal assessments and interventions
- Educate and support families on infant care
- Collaborate with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams
- Document accurately in EMR
Patient Population & Procedures:
- Premature infants (23 weeks and above)
- Surgical conditions including NEC, CDH, and other neonatal complications
- High-acuity neonatal cases requiring intensive monitoring
Required Qualifications:
- Active RN License
- BLS Certification – Required
- NRP Certification – Required
- Minimum 2 years NICU experience
Skills Required:
- Ventilator management
- Central line management
- Pre/post-surgical neonatal care
- Tracheostomy and G-tube management
- Breastfeeding and bottle feeding support
- Gavage feeding
- Blood transfusion administration
- Neonatal IV/venous access skills
Department Support:
- Nursing Assistants (1:20 ratio)
- 2 Charge RNs per shift
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
Floating Requirements:
- General Pediatrics
- PICU
- Adolescent Pediatrics
- Pediatric Hem/Onc
Orientation:
- NEO (New Employee Orientation)
- 2 days departmental orientation
Scheduling Details:
- Weekend rotation: Every other weekend (minimum)
- Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks
- No on-call requirements
- RTO subject to approval
