Shift Details: 12hr Night Shift (36 hours/week) – 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM | Every other weekend | No call | 75% Holiday requirement

Job Summary:

The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill and premature newborns in a fast-paced Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The RN will manage high-acuity patients, support families, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced neonatal care.

Facility Overview:

• 885 adult beds | 196 pediatric beds
• Level I Trauma Center
• Academic Teaching Hospital
• Chest Pain & Stroke Center

Department Overview:

• Level IV NICU
• Average daily census: 71
• Patient population: 23 weeks gestation to term infants
• First-time travelers accepted
• Manager interview required

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive care to critically ill neonates
• Monitor and manage ventilated patients
• Administer medications and blood products
• Assist with and manage pre/post-surgical neonatal care
• Perform neonatal assessments and interventions
• Educate and support families on infant care
• Collaborate with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams
• Document accurately in EMR

Patient Population & Procedures:

• Premature infants (23 weeks and above)
• Surgical conditions including NEC, CDH, and other neonatal complications
• High-acuity neonatal cases requiring intensive monitoring

Required Qualifications:

• Active RN License
• BLS Certification – Required
• NRP Certification – Required
• Minimum 2 years NICU experience

Skills Required:

• Ventilator management
• Central line management
• Pre/post-surgical neonatal care
• Tracheostomy and G-tube management
• Breastfeeding and bottle feeding support
• Gavage feeding
• Blood transfusion administration
• Neonatal IV/venous access skills

Department Support:

• Nursing Assistants (1:20 ratio)
• 2 Charge RNs per shift

Technology & Equipment:

• EMR: EPIC

Floating Requirements:

• General Pediatrics
• PICU
• Adolescent Pediatrics
• Pediatric Hem/Onc

Orientation:

• NEO (New Employee Orientation)
• 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling Details:

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend (minimum)
• Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks
• No on-call requirements
• RTO subject to approval
