Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico

Job Summary

Provide nursing care to Emergency Department patients in a Level 3 Trauma setting. Utilize the Nursing Process in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies. Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership to ensure safe patient care. Delegate and supervise patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively
• Administer medications and monitor for side effects
• Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education
• Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel
• Adhere to safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives
• Float to other units as required
• Respond to call with a minimum 2-hour notice before shift start

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC

Additional Information

• Patient ratio typically 4:1
• Blocked scheduling and 48-hour guarantees are not approved
• One summer and one winter holiday off required, based on department needs
• Maximum of one requested time off (RTO) per schedule (6-week scheduling cycle)
• Scrub color: None required, full uniform expected
• Electronic Medical Record system: MedHost (EDIS)
