Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the direct supervision and delegation of a physician and supports providers, residents, medical students, and clinical staff through a team-based approach to patient care. This role performs clinical tasks within the LPN scope of practice, including patient assessment, vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, and preparation of patients for evaluation. The LPN provides patient education to help individuals fully understand and benefit from available care services and may work within a designated specialty or cross-cover multiple clinical areas. Additional responsibilities include maintaining exam room readiness, managing supplies, documenting clinical information, and ensuring patient safety in accordance with emergency clinical policies and protocols. The LPN collaborates closely with the supervisor to ensure timely and high-quality care delivery.
Essential Functions:
- Assess physical condition (vital signs/measurements) & nursing needs, prepare patient and assist provider in developing a plan of care to allow for an efficient and complete patient visit
- Perform patient care activities (ie. phlebotomy functions, EKGs) according to the clinical scope of practice for LPNs to provide the highest quality of clinical outcomes
- Ensure exam room/work area is clean & safe, equipment is maintained, & exam rooms are stocked for the next patient
- Perform pre-visit and post-visit documentation to provide adequate care and complete records
- Complete inventory management of supplies to ensure exam areas are fully stocked and functional
- Participates in care team huddles to collaborative care is given to each patient on every visit
- Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care
- Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program
- State Licensure as a Florida Practical Nurse
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / Automated External Debribrillator (AED)
6 months experience in a clinical role in a healthcare facility
- Completion of two or more additional pre-approved trainings, certifications, or continuing education courses related to clinical practice in assigned area within 6 months of hire
- Demonstration of additional competencies designated within area of hire, such as: pediatric responsibilities, Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Care Management, Team Based Care, EPIC proficiencies, etc. or competencies across multiple specialties, experience with Revenue Cycle tasks such as surgery scheduling or front desk duties, experience and/or ability to coordinate schedules and performance management for Clinical Assistant team(s) within 6 months of hire
