Living in Rapid City means having world-renowned destinations virtually in your backyard. The city sits just a short drive from Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, and countless trails, lakes, and scenic byways. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy year-round access to hiking, biking, rock climbing, camping, fly-fishing, and winter sports in the Black Hills. Within the city, you will find a revitalized historic downtown featuring local restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, galleries, and community events throughout the year. Families appreciate the area’s friendly neighborhoods, strong sense of community pride, and variety of parks, cultural attractions, and educational options. The region’s overall lower cost of living compared to many larger metropolitan areas allows you to enjoy more of what Rapid City and the surrounding landscape have to offer. As a Respiratory Therapist in this regional medical hub, you will join a collaborative, patient-centered care team that serves a broad and diverse population from across western South Dakota and neighboring states. The hospital provides a modern, well-equipped environment that supports advanced respiratory care, with access to contemporary ventilator technology, non-invasive ventilation, high-flow oxygen systems, and comprehensive monitoring capabilities. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals who value open communication, mutual respect, and evidence-based practice. In this role, your typical day will focus on delivering high-quality respiratory care to patients in multiple settings, which may include general medical-surgical floors, step-down units, intensive care, emergency care, and specialty areas depending on departmental needs and your experience. Your responsibilities may include performing assessments, administering aerosol and bronchodilator therapies, managing oxygen delivery systems, setting up and monitoring invasive and non-invasive ventilators, and participating in ventilator weaning protocols. You may be involved in arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, airway clearance therapies, chest physiotherapy, and assisting with intubations or rapid-response situations in collaboration with the care team.
