This Respiratory Therapist opportunity is located in Kealakekua on the Island of Hawaii, a truly unique place to live and work. Within this hospital-based role, you will join a dedicated respiratory care team serving a diverse patient population in a regional medical setting. Typical responsibilities include performing comprehensive respiratory assessments, delivering aerosol and bronchodilator therapies, managing oxygen and humidity systems, and overseeing invasive and non-invasive ventilator support. You will be involved in arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, participation in rapid response and code blue situations, and collaboration with physicians and nursing staff on individualized care plans. Depending on department needs, you may rotate through units such as medical-surgical, telemetry, critical care, and the emergency department, providing broad clinical exposure and ongoing skill development. A typical day may include morning ventilator rounds, adjustment of ventilator settings in coordination with the care team, patient education for those with chronic lung disease, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. You may assist with transport of ventilated patients within the hospital, provide respiratory support during procedures, and respond to respiratory-related calls throughout the facility. Patient assignments are designed to support safe, high-quality care, and the smaller-community setting means you can build strong, ongoing relationships with patients and colleagues. The hospital environment emphasizes teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
