StartDate: 10/5/2026 Available Shifts: 10 D Pay Rate: $2473.00 - $2548.00
This inpatient Occupational Therapist position is based in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a historic coastal city known for its picturesque harbor, maritime heritage, and vibrant arts culture. Located along the South Coast, New Bedford offers easy access to Cape Cod, Providence, and Boston, giving you the feel of a tight-knit community with the convenience of larger cities just a short drive away. Residents enjoy scenic waterfront views, a revitalized downtown with galleries, cafes, and restaurants, as well as year-round cultural events, festivals, and outdoor recreation along the Atlantic shoreline. The hospital-based inpatient setting provides a dynamic clinical environment where you will treat diverse adult and geriatric patient populations. You can expect to work with individuals recovering from medical, surgical, orthopedic, and neurological conditions, supporting safe transitions across the continuum of care. The facility emphasizes patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based practice, offering a supportive atmosphere for clinicians who want to strengthen their clinical skills and contribute to positive patient outcomes. In this role, you will perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver interventions focused on functional independence in self-care, mobility, cognition, and home management tasks. Typical responsibilities include ADL and IADL training, therapeutic exercise and activity, cognitive and perceptual retraining, equipment recommendations, caregiver training, discharge planning, and close collaboration with nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, case management, and physicians. A typical day may include morning interdisciplinary rounds, bedside evaluations, treatment sessions in both patient rooms and therapy spaces, and coordination with the care team to support early mobility and safe discharge. You may work with patients in general medical-surgical units, telemetry, orthopedics, and other inpatient units as appropriate for OT practice. Patient caseloads and treatment schedules are designed to support quality care and allow time for thorough documentation and communication. Shifts generally follow a daytime schedule with potential for weekend and holiday rotations depending on departmental needs. This position is well-suited for an OT who values meaningful, hands-on inpatient work and wants to be part of a collegial, team-oriented environment. New Bedford’s combination of coastal charm, cultural richness, and convenient access to nearby metropolitan areas makes it an appealing home base for clinicians seeking both professional growth and a high quality of life.
