Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist - (Cardio - CI Tech - CVIT)
StartDate: 7/6/2026 Available Shifts: 10 D Pay Rate: $3310.00 - $3411.00
Join a dynamic Interventional Radiology team as an Interventional Radiology Technologist in Birmingham, Alabama, working 10-hour shifts with an engaged, rotating call schedule. This role offers the opportunity to practice at a high level of clinical skill, support complex image-guided procedures, and contribute directly to excellent patient outcomes in a modern, well-equipped hospital environment. Birmingham is a thriving Southern city that blends historic charm with a revitalized, contemporary feel. The metro area features a vibrant food scene, craft breweries, live music, museums, and cultural festivals throughout the year. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy easy access to hiking trails, parks, and nearby lakes, as well as green spaces right in the city. Birmingham’s cost of living is generally more affordable than many comparable metropolitan areas, making it attractive for both early-career and experienced professionals. The city’s central location in Alabama offers convenient travel to the Gulf Coast, Atlanta, Nashville, and other regional destinations. In this Interventional Radiology Technologist role, you will support a wide range of image-guided procedures in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. Typical procedures may include vascular interventions, central venous access, angiography, drain placements, biopsies, and other minimally invasive treatments, depending on the daily caseload and physician needs. You will work closely with interventional radiologists, nurses, and anesthesia professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for every patient. A typical day includes preparing procedure rooms, verifying patient identity and procedural details, positioning patients, setting up sterile trays, and operating fluoroscopic and other imaging equipment to capture high-quality images during procedures. You will assist physicians with device and catheter manipulation, monitor imaging parameters and radiation exposure, and document procedural details and images in the electronic medical record and imaging systems. Post-procedure responsibilities may involve assisting with patient transfer, room turnover, restocking supplies, and collaborating with the team to prepare for the next case. You will be scheduled for 10-hour shifts that provide extended coverage for the procedural schedule and allow for compressed work weeks when staffing needs permit. Participation in a structured call rotation is required, which supports emergent and after-hours interventional cases such as urgent vascular interventions or emergent drain placements. Call responsibilities may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and the team works together to create balanced coverage. The department features advanced imaging technology and is designed to support efficient workflows. You will use modern fluoroscopy systems, PACS, and hospital-wide EMR platforms to coordinate care and maintain accurate documentation. The interprofessional team environment emphasizes communication, respect, and patient safety. New team members receive orientation to the department’s protocols, equipment, and case types, along with ongoing opportunities for skill development as the service line grows and evolves. Patient acuity and volumes can vary, but the environment is structured to maintain safe patient ratios and appropriate case scheduling. Cases may range from routine outpatient procedures to more complex inpatient and emergent interventions. The role requires flexibility, strong attention to detail, and composure in high-intensity situations. This position is ideal for Interventional Radiology Technologists who want to further develop their skills in a supportive setting, gain exposure to a broad procedural mix, and enjoy living in a city with a strong medical community, cultural amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere. Birmingham offers a balanced lifestyle with professional challenge and personal enjoyment, making it a compelling choice for your next career move.
