This Occupational Therapist position is based in a skilled short-term rehab setting in Charlotte, Michigan, a welcoming small community in the heart of the state. The rehab setting provides skilled, short-term services to adults and older adults recovering from surgery, illness, or injury. Patients commonly present with orthopedic conditions, neurological diagnoses, general deconditioning, and medically complex needs. As an Occupational Therapist, you will work within a collaborative interdisciplinary team that includes physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nursing staff, social workers, and physicians, all focused on helping patients achieve safe and timely transitions to home or the next level of care. A typical day includes performing comprehensive evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions to improve functional independence, ADLs, IADLs, cognition, and safety awareness. You will be actively involved in discharge planning, caregiver training, and home safety recommendations. Treatment may involve therapeutic exercise, functional task training, energy conservation strategies, adaptive equipment training, and environmental modifications. You will use an EMR system for documentation and participate in regular team meetings to review progress and coordinate care. Patient caseload is primarily adult and geriatric, with ratios designed to support quality, one-on-one care, while maintaining an efficient workflow. The rehab environment includes dedicated therapy spaces with modern equipment appropriate for strengthening, balance training, functional mobility, and self-care practice. You will have access to a variety of adaptive devices and tools to support patients in learning or re-learning daily living skills. Shifts typically follow daytime hours on weekdays, with potential for occasional weekend or holiday coverage depending on census and patient needs. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your skills in short-term rehab, work closely with an interdisciplinary team, and contribute meaningfully to patients’ recovery journeys. The setting is supportive of professional development, encouraging therapists to pursue clinical interests and take part in ongoing learning.
