This Dietician position is based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a dynamic, growing city that blends the amenities of an urban center with the ease and warmth of Midwestern living. Sioux Falls is known for its scenic outdoor spaces, including the iconic Falls Park, where the Big Sioux River cascades over pink quartzite, as well as extensive bike and walking trails that wind through the city. Residents enjoy a thriving arts and cultural scene, local music and theater, seasonal festivals, and a variety of restaurants and shops. The community offers a comfortable cost of living, highly regarded schools, and family-friendly neighborhoods, making it an appealing location whether you are advancing your career or seeking a fresh start. You will be joining a modern healthcare environment in a city recognized as a regional medical destination, with access to advanced clinical services and collaborative care teams. Facilities here emphasize quality, patient safety, and innovation, offering exposure to complex cases and diverse patient populations. This setting allows dieticians to deepen clinical skills, participate in multidisciplinary care, and contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes. Workspaces are designed to support efficient, team-based care, and you can expect to collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and case managers. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nutrition care to adult and/or pediatric patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, depending on the specific assignment. A typical day may include conducting detailed nutrition assessments, reviewing medical histories and laboratory data, developing individualized care plans, and documenting all interventions in the electronic medical record. You will provide medical nutrition therapy for conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and oncology-related issues, as well as for patients undergoing surgery or managing chronic illness. Direct patient education is a key responsibility. You will meet with patients and families to explain nutrition recommendations, support behavior change, and address cultural and personal preferences in diet planning. You may lead or contribute to group classes on topics such as weight management, heart-healthy eating, or carbohydrate counting. Depending on the department, you may also collaborate with food and nutrition services on menu planning and the delivery of therapeutic diets, ensuring alignment between clinical orders and meal service. Patient volumes and ratios vary by unit, but you can expect a manageable caseload designed to allow thorough assessments and follow-up. In inpatient areas, you will round on assigned patients, prioritize high-risk cases such as malnutrition or complex medical conditions, and coordinate care transitions. In outpatient or clinic settings, you will typically see scheduled patients throughout the day, with time set aside for documentation, interdisciplinary meetings, and program development. Shifts are generally daytime hours with possible flexibility for occasional evening programming or weekend rotations, depending on departmental needs. The schedule is structured to support both patient access and professional balance. As part of a collaborative team culture, you will engage in case discussions, participate in quality improvement projects, and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving nutrition screening, malnutrition identification, and patient education resources. This position offers a strong platform for professional growth, with opportunities to specialize in areas such as critical care, oncology, bariatrics, or pediatrics, and to pursue advanced certifications. Working in Sioux Falls, you will benefit from a supportive healthcare community that values evidence-based practice and continuing education, all within a city that provides abundant recreation, cultural experiences, and a friendly, welcoming environment.
