Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist Registered (RT PEDS) in Billings, Montana. The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary deficiencies and/or abnormalities according to the prescription of the order physician. This role serves as a resource to the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) staff and may support special clinical projects or assignments based on department needs. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Nights shift; 12 hours per shift; minimum 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) status through the National Board for Respiratory Care; current state license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS); graduate of a NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care)-approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution.

- Responsibilities:
- Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol, including obtaining arterial gases.
- Oversees and troubleshoots equipment operation for optimal patient care.
- Initiates respiratory protocol based on department criteria and initiates interventions based on assessment interpretation.
- Administers medications safely and in a timely manner; evaluates effects and re-evaluates according to protocol.
- Maintains awareness of assigned patients overall condition; communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Shares patient information with physicians and nurses and makes appropriate recommendations for patient care.
- Recognizes educational needs of patients and families and teaches self-care techniques and modalities.
- Completes documentation according to departmental standards, including accurate productivity documentation; monitors supplies and equipment and notifies appropriate personnel when supplies are low, out on loan, or broken.
- Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, including identifying areas for improvement and potential safety hazards and taking appropriate action.
- Contributes ideas and feedback in departmental meetings.
- Promotes the profession of respiratory care and acts as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department and patient care areas through development of others.
- Participates in quality improvement and research activities as part of the respiratory care team.
- May be required to float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications based on business need.
- May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
