Description

CT Technologist (Cat Scan) Nights (Hackensack, NJ)
The CT Technologist performs computer tomography (CT) procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation, and supports interventional and therapeutic procedures as needed. Responsibilities include preparing patients for CT scanning, administering contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, and ensuring accurate documentation and imaging workflows in PACS. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Nights, 3 PM11:30 PM, 8 shift hours, 40 hours per week; every third weekends; holidays as needed; no on-call.
  • Required Qualifications: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License; ARRT Certified R.T. (R) license required; American Heart Association (BLS) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification; Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program; High School diploma or equivalent; CAT SCAN (CT TECH) experience/skills required; knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body; understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware; thorough knowledge of PACS system; maintains continuing education (CEU) credits; team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following hire date; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Six months CT experience preferred; knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital; ARRT certified R.T. (CT) license preferred.
  • Responsibilities: Performs complex CT procedures and uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history, ensuring information is documented and scanned into PACS; prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member, and scans into EPIC; identifies and/or administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner; reviews patient prescriptions to verify appropriateness of exam and, if incorrect, communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription; calls physicians to clarify prescriptions according to appropriate CT protocols; verifies insurance-authorized exam script and sends exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification; obtains outside studies (CD) and schedules them in EPIC so CD and reports are available in PACS for Radiologist comparison; evaluates radiographs in the PACS system to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value; determines whether patients have been appropriately prepared and prepares patients for scanning (including shielding and immobilization devices); determines appropriate type and dose of contrast; provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate level, addresses and documents patient questions and concerns when appropriate; performs venipuncture and manages IV patency and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines; monitors patients for adverse reactions during procedures; provides exam copies to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member; identifies patient needs and modifies and delivers care specific to age, culture, language, and sensory needs; communicates with the patient/parent/primary caregiver(s) at an appropriate developmental/educational/literacy level; adheres to organizational competencies, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality; lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours per day; responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends.
