Description

Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist (RT PEDS) Pontiac, Michigan. The respiratory therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory therapy and transporting patients into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, recommending and implementing treatment plans, and performing physician-prescribed respiratory care with minimal supervision, within the scope of professional licensure. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Rotating shifts; 12 shift hours; minimum 36.0 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Active professional licensure as a Respiratory Therapist (Registered); Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Preferred Qualifications: N/A
  • Additional Information: Performs ventilatory and oxygenation therapies using invasive and non-invasive equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices; provides chest physiotherapy for secretion clearance; performs suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods; performs oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy; reviews chest X-rays to support further evaluation needs; performs 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition; performs pulmonary function studies per policy; assists with respiratory procedures per policy (including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy procedures, and chest tube placement); provides chest drainage where applicable (including via PleurX catheter or similar devices); performs tracheostomy care per policy (including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes, emergent and non-emergent); performs arterial puncture per policy and supports ventilation efficiency determination with monitoring, recording, and reporting of results; for facilities with moderate complexity labs, follows policies related to specimen handling, equipment use, documentation and reporting, quality controls, and maintenance across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases; performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation per Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) guidelines; performs insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system; performs set-up and self-test of ventilatory equipment and operates, maintains, and monitors mechanical ventilation; supports preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as needed; documents treatments and patient response on respiratory care records and patient chart per policy; communicates with attending and pulmonary providers regarding therapy efficiency; completes shift-to-shift handoff communication during walking rounds; maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging, including data entry, verification, and correction of errors; performs other duties as assigned.
