Description
Job Summary:
Respiratory Therapist Registered (RT PEDS) in a healthcare facility setting. This position involves delivering advanced respiratory care to pediatric patients, performing diagnostic testing, administering medications, and providing education to patients and families. The role requires collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to departmental protocols.
Job Details:
- Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures including arterial gases.
- Oversees and troubleshoots respiratory equipment for optimal patient care.
- Initiates Respiratory Protocols based on departmental criteria.
- Administers medications safely and evaluates their effects, re-assessing as needed.
- Communicates patient progress effectively to physicians and nursing staff.
- Recognizes educational needs of patients and families, providing health promotion guidance.
- Teaches self-care techniques to patients and their families.
- Completes documentation in accordance with departmental standards, including productivity logs.
- Monitors supplies and equipment, notifying appropriate personnel of shortages or malfunctions.
- Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, suggesting process improvements.
- Contributes to departmental meetings with feedback and ideas.
- Acts as a resource, mentor, and consultant within the respiratory care department.
- Participates in quality improvement and research activities to enhance patient standards.
- May float to related departments within scope of competency and qualifications based on operational needs.
- May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an NBRC approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution.
- Current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
- Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- At least 1 year of related clinical experience.
- Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Location requirements: Must be a licensed Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.

Candidates may be required to float to other departments within the scope of their qualifications based on clinical needs. Flexibility to adapt to operational demands, including on-call responsibilities, is expected.
