Job Summary
Mammographer in a healthcare facility environment, this role involves performing radiologic procedures focused on breast imaging. The Mammographer is responsible for ensuring quality imaging, patient education, regulatory compliance, and accurate documentation to support diagnostic interpretation.
Job Details
- Responsible for the daily operation of the womens health section of radiology.
- Responsible for suggesting changes in procedures, policies, and quality improvement initiatives, as well as coordinating training and development in breast imaging specialties.
- Adheres to all Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for the mammography section.
- Maintains appropriate records for all accreditation processes and inspections.
- Maintains the structured reporting system to ensure accurate audit reporting, statistical tracking, and resolution of workflow issues.
- Ensures completion of daily quality assurance (QA) and preventative maintenance scheduling.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of Mammography imaging procedures.
- Performs all exams based on Imaging Department Protocols or protocols the exam with the Radiologist.
- Practices radiation safety, adhering to As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) standards.
- Ability to operate equipment consistent with the manufacturers recommendations.
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and independently calls a service engineer if the malfunction needs outside maintenance.
- Verifies exam orders, identifies the patient through two means of identification, and provides exam education.
- Reviews and documents the patients medical history, obtains required informed consent, and ensures all necessary paperwork and prior studies are complete and available before submitting procedures for Radiologist interpretation.
- Maintains accurate patient records in Electronic Health Record (EHR), including charging for procedures and supplies.
- May be required to perform other functions within the clinic, with additional training provided as needed.
- Demonstrates flexibility by assisting in other modalities, adjusting schedules, and taking call, overtime, or holiday shifts as needed.
- Obtains additional training or certification as required.
- Assists with clerical duties, phone reception, and patient transportation when required.
- Assists, trains, or cross-trains imaging staff members as directed.
- Must be self-motivated, use independent judgment, and work with minimum supervision.
- Responsible for ordering, stocking, and maintaining supply inventory.
- Demonstrates full commitment to organizational values and maintains professional communication and appearance.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and safety procedures.
