Job Details

• Qualifications: Certified as a histotechnologist with American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification. A minimum of 1 year of experience is preferred, with at least 0 years of experience required.
• Schedule: 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the identification and processing of all tissue specimens received in anatomic pathology.
  • Assigns appropriate sequential accession numbers, maintaining patient identification accuracy throughout processing.
  • Enters all patient demographic information, specimen source, and physician or surgeon details correctly.
  • Assists pathologists with gross examination by providing labeled tissue cassettes, operating tissue processors, and offering support during specimen examination.
  • Performs meticulous processing, sectioning, staining, and slide delivery to pathologists for microscopic review.
  • Assists with frozen section preparation immediately upon receipt of specimens.
  • Executes special histochemical staining procedures as required, completing them within the timeframe specified by the pathologist.
  • Prepares slides or anatomical materials for sending to other laboratories as needed.
  • Files tissue slides and blocks for storage and retrieval, ensuring retention periods are met and storage is organized.
  • Assists with the rotation and management of patient specimens stored on-site.
