Job Summary
Pharmacist, Inpatient Specialty Located in the Sacramento metropolitan area, this inpatient pharmacy role involves supporting accurate medication charging, billing, and reimbursement across outpatient hospital departments such as observation units, emergency departments, outpatient surgery centers, and infusion clinics. The position requires ensuring compliance with regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, health resources & services administration, and payer requirements, acting as a bridge between pharmacy operations, revenue cycle, compliance, and finance.
Job Details
- Location: Sacramento metropolitan area
- Schedule: Rotating shift, 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Active Pharmacy technician licensure (California, Oregon, or Hawaii), IV compounding experience within the last year in inpatient pharmacy hospital setting or infusion center, background in medication charges from inpatient pharmacy, and familiarity with outpatient pharmacy billing and compliance.
- Certifications: State Pharmacy Technician license (CA, OR, &/or HI) required; Pharmaceutical Technician Board certification preferred; advanced certifications (e.g., CHRI, CRCR, or 340B ACE) preferred.
- Essential Functions:
- Review and reconcile medication charges in outpatient hospital encounters.
- Validate NDC-to-HCPCS mapping, billable units, and modifiers per CMS and payer guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with 340B, GPO, and WAC pricing policies; collaborate with audit teams.
- Participate in audits and identify charge capture errors prior to billing.
- Monitor claim accuracy and ensure HCPCS and revenue codes align with documentation.
- Collaborate to maintain compliant and optimized Charge Description Master and Medication Record Master File entries.
- Support resolution of claim denials, perform root cause analysis, and recommend preventive actions.
- Educate staff on charge accuracy, billing best practices, and compliance.
- Assist during EMR upgrades, charge automation, and workflow changes.
- Track charge correction trends, denial root causes, and reimbursement impacts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Submission Requirements: Candidates must hold an active pharmacy technician license in California, Oregon, or Hawaii, and demonstrate recent IV compounding experience in a hospital setting.
