Job Description:

The Adult Cardiac OR cares for a wide variety of patients, including CABGs, TAVIs, and Heart Failure cases such as VADs, ECMO, Artificial Heart, and Heart Transplants. The Surgical Technologist will provide technical knowledge in preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures and assist the surgical team from the scrub position during operations. Responsible for the proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases. Maintains sterile technique, safe handling of sharps, and performs surgical counts as per hospital policy. Demonstrates proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse. Must have 2 years of recent experience in a cardiac operating room.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical knowledge in preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assist the surgical team from the scrub position during an operation.
• Ensure proper care and handling of instruments and facilitate room turnover between cases.
• Maintain sterile technique, safe handling of sharps, and perform surgical counts as per hospital policy.
• Handle solutions and pharmacologic agents properly under the direction of a registered nurse.

Requirements:

• NBSTSA Certification or 10 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
• Two (2) years of recent experience in a cardiac OR.
• Able to scrub and circulate.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY).
• Tech License (NY License ONLY).
• Operating room experience in a level 1 trauma preferred.
