Job Description:

The Adult Cardiac OR cares for a wide variety of patients, including CABG's, TAVI's, and Heart Failure (VAD's, ECMO, Artificial Heart, and Heart Transplants). Using a multidisciplinary approach, the OR staff cares for patients of all ages. The Surgical Technologist will provide technical knowledge in preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures and assists the surgical team from the scrub position during an operation. Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases. Maintains sterile technique, safe handling of sharps, and performance of surgical counts as per hospital policy. Demonstrates proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse. Must have 2 years of recent experience in a cardiac operation room.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assist the surgical team from the scrub position during operations.
• Maintain sterile technique and safe handling of sharps and perform surgical counts.
• Facilitate room turnover between cases.
• Handle solutions and pharmacologic agents under RN direction.

Requirements:

• NBSTSA Certification or 10 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
• Two (2) years of recent experience in a cardiac OR.
• Able to scrub and circulate.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY).
• Operating room experience in a level 1 trauma setting preferred.
