Unit Information
Location: Kansas City, MO
- Number of Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Staffing Description: Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
- Type of Equipment: Alaris IV Pumps, SCD machines, Hill Rom beds, Dinamap machines in each room, Welch Allen Vital Machines, Wound Vacs, Temporary Pacemakers, Telemetry monitors, EKG Machines, Bladder Scanners, Dopplers, Imobile for communication between team members.
- Documentation System: Meditech
Job Responsibilities
- Provide care in a fast-paced cardiac telemetry environment.
- Read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips.
- Administer and titrate IV medications including insulin, Cardizem, Cardene, and Amiodarone.
- Perform procedures such as IV insertions, NGT placement and maintenance, chest tube maintenance, temporary pacemakers, and Foley insertions.
Qualifications
- Cardiac Telemetry or PCU/ICU experience required.
- Experience with post-cardiac procedural care (Ablations, cardiac catheterizations, Post Op Day 1 Open Heart, permanent Pacemaker placements) is essential.
- Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
Scheduling Requirements
Must work full-time hours, including three weekend shifts per scheduling period.
Floating Policy
Contract nurses may be floated to any area where they have demonstrated competency.
Patient Experience Expectations
Align with patient experience goals by:
- Treating every patient with courtesy and respect.
- Being responsive to call lights and using patients' preferred names.
- Making personal connections with patients during bedside shift report.
- Teaching patients how to directly contact their nurse.
- Asking patients if there is anything else that can be done before leaving the room.
