Description
Unit Information
The unit includes a Cath Lab, Electrophysiology (EP), and Interventional Radiology (IR) with:
- 3 rooms and a hybrid OR
- An average of 15-20 cases per day, with variability by day
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - through AHA
Common Diagnoses / Types of Patients
Types of cases include a variety of specialties:
- Cardiac / Interventional Cardiology: diagnostic heart catheterizations, PCIs, and device implants
- Interventional Radiology: ports, feeding tubes, dialysis catheters, IVC filters, nephrostomy tubes, vertebroplasties
- Vascular: AAA/ELG endovascular repairs, TCAR, carotid angiographies/stenting, peripheral diagnostic and interventions
- Structural Heart: TAVR, MitraClip, left atrial appendage closures, PFO closures, alcohol ablations, balloon aortic valvuloplasty
- Electrophysiology: cardiac ablations and device implants
Job Duties
As a Registered Nurse, you will:
- Circulate cases, including administering medications and sedation
- Monitor patients throughout procedures, with opportunities to scrub if trained
Experience and Skills
Preferred qualifications include:
- 2-3 years of experience in both Interventional Radiology and Cath Lab settings
- Experience with vascular and/or structural heart procedures
- Familiarity with charting systems and medical equipment (may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
Equipment and Charting Systems
- EMR: Cerner
- Hemodynamic charting system: Merge
- Room Equipment: X-ray/table systems by Phillips, Ultrasound (regular and cardiac), and various specialized equipment used for procedures
Shift Details and Scheduling
- 4 ten-hour shifts per week (Monday-Friday with one weekday off)
- Team composition: 3-4 person teams per room, 4 person teams for call
Call and Weekend Requirements
- Typical call requirements: 7-10 days of call per month, including 1 weekend per month
- Holidays: Expected to fulfill 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday commitment
Orientation and Training
- 1 day of hospital orientation followed by 2 days of department-specific orientation for new hires
