Job Overview

The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care in the Birthing Center, focusing on labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP). The successful candidate will assist with patient management and ensure high-quality maternal and neonatal care while adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Unit Information

• Labor and Delivery Beds: 13
• Operating Room Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Triage Beds: 2
• Postpartum Beds: 14
• Average Births per Month: 170-190

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with a focus on maternal and neonatal safety.
• Attend deliveries independently and assist during C-sections.
• Monitor and manage patients with a variety of diagnoses including high-risk patients.
• Titrate drips as necessary, including common medications such as magnesium, Pitocin, and insulin.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team, including OB/GYNs, anesthesiologists, and neonatal nurse practitioners, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in the care transitions for newborns and attend to routine mother and baby competencies.

Qualifications

• Must possess current BLS and NRP certifications.
• Two years of LDRP experience required.
• Experience with high-risk obstetric patients preferred.
• Ability to read EFM strips and manage telemetry monitoring.
• Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration within the team.

Shifts and Scheduling

• Weekend Requirements: Every other Saturday and Sunday for day shifts; Friday and Saturday for night shifts.
• Holiday Requirements: Must rotate with permanent staff.
• Block scheduling options are available when requested in contracts.

Additional Information

• Free charge nurse responsibilities for both shifts, with no assigned patient load.
• Support staff includes one surgical tech and a patient care assistant available on each shift.
• In-house OB anesthesiology and neonatal care are available 24/7.
• An 8-hour compliance orientation followed by 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation will be provided.
• The unit manager is approachable and committed to staff development and quality service.
