Description
General Information
Join a dynamic and fast-paced Emergency Department team that sees approximately 150-180 patients daily. Our facility is equipped with 33 main beds, including 8 dedicated to trauma and resuscitation, a vertical care area, and a special pod for Behavioral Health.
Unit Information
- Minimum Experience Required:
- RN: 2 years of Emergency Department experience (not including travel experience) preferred.
- If the candidate has 1.5 years of ED experience (excluding travel) and 2 years of experience in another nursing field, prior approval from management is required.
- LPN: 2 years of experience in any acute care setting (Medical, Behavioral Health, or Progressive Care Unit). Experience can be considered with management approval based on similar criteria as RN.
- Must reside at least 100 miles away from any facility to be eligible.
Patient Types
The Emergency Department caters to a diverse patient population, including:
- Neonates
- Geriatric patients
- Minor to critical conditions, such as:
- Sepsis
- DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
- Respiratory Illnesses
- GI bleeds requiring emergent blood products
- Banding procedures
- A heavy trauma population, as we are a Level 2 trauma center, managing cases such as stab wounds, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle collisions, drownings, and falls.
- Stroke patients can be cared for up to 24 hours.
Responsibilities
Registered Nurses will have the following duties:
- Assessing and triaging patients utilizing Emergency Severity Index (ESI) assessments.
- Caring for patients across the spectrum of acuity using critical thinking and strong communication skills.
- Providing care to Sexual Assault patients, including evidence collection, under the guidance of a dedicated Sexual Assault Quality Coordinator and access to resources.
- Potentially float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as needed.
Patient Ratios
The expected patient ratios are:
- RN: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- LPN: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- ED Tech: 1 tech to 10 patients
Required Certifications
- Registered Nurses must have the following certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred
- LPNs must possess:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- PALS
- CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred
Education Requirements
Candidates must have completed a nursing education program approved by a recognized nursing board.
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation includes 8 hours of facility orientation and 4 hours of ED-specific education, followed by a minimum of two 12-hour shifts.
- Shifts are variable, with a mix of day and night shifts available.
- Availability to work weekends may be required, depending on staffing needs.
Support on the Unit
- ED Tech support is available on a 1:10 ratio.
- Access to a Lead Tech and Charge Nurse covering the floor 24/7. <
