Description
General Information
We are seeking experienced ICU Registered Nurses to provide high-quality care in a mixed critical care unit environment. Our unit consists of 39 beds, serving a diverse range of complex ICU patients, including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases.
Patient Types
- Complex ICU patients
- Surgical and medical conditions
- Cardiac care (preferred)
- Neuro and trauma cases
- Common diagnoses: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical, multiple-system trauma
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years ICU experience (excluding travel experience preferred)
- If less experience, significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered with approval
- Must live 100 miles away from any facility
- No first-time travelers accepted; at least one prior travel assignment required
Patient Ratios
- RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare, based on patient acuity)
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- TNCC (required)
Education and Skills
- Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required in South Dakota
- Epic experience preferred
- Ability to work a 48-hour/week contract
- Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
Unit Support
- CNA support: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit
- Mobility float aide available
- Resource Nurse available based on staffing needs
- Phlebotomy support for peripheral blood draws only
- ICU CRNs place all midlines
- RT support available 24/7
- Physician oversight by Intensivists during the day and APP coverage at night
Orientation
- Hospital orientation: Total of 8 hours
- Unit orientation: 12-hour shifts plus independent shifts for travelers
Scheduling
- Weekend rotation typically every other weekend, not guaranteed
- No requests for time off during holidays
- Time off approval: Up to 7 days, must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract
- No time off during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)
Additional Notes
Candidates may be expected to precept students. Scrub color is navy. Free parking is available for staff.
