Description
Job Summary
The NICU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing exceptional care to critically ill newborns in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This role requires working closely with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure the highest quality of care is delivered.
Unit Information
- Type: Level III NICU – 13 private rooms
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2, with occasional 1:1 for more critical patients; feeder grower infants may be assigned 1:3.
- Expectations: Our NICU nurses attend deliveries and are involved in newborn admissions. There may also be responsibilities assisting with mother-baby care.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Advanced
- STABLE (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support)
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Level III or IV NICU setting.
- Proficiency with the following:
- Nasopharyngeal Cannula (NC)
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Biphasic Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (BCPAP)
- Ventilators
- Chest Tubes
- Umbilical Venous Catheter (UVC)
- Umbilical Arterial Catheter (UAC)
- Care for Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW) infants
- Delivery room experience is highly preferred.
Shifts and Scheduling
- Shift: 12-hour shifts
- Self-scheduling is utilized, with schedules prepared six weeks in advance.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating with core staff.
Floating Requirements
RNs may be required to assist in resource nursing to support mother-baby staff, which may include lab work, circumcisions, car seat studies, and taking on neonatal assignments as necessary. Floating may occur between multiple locations within the region as needed.
Orientation
New hires can expect 1-2 days of day shift orientation followed by 1-2 nights of orientation.

The hospital reserves the right to cancel shifts under specific circumstances.
