Description
General Information
We are seeking dedicated and experienced Registered Nurses to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced emergency department setting. Our facility sees an average of 150-180 patients daily and operates with 33 beds in the main emergency department, in addition to specialized areas for trauma, behavioral health, and vertical care.
Patient Care & Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse will provide high-quality care to a diverse patient population, which includes:
- Neonates to geriatric patients
- Patients with minor to critical conditions, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illnesses, GI bleeds, and heavy trauma cases
- Stroke patients, with the capability to manage cases up to 24 hours
Travel nurses may be required to take care of sexual assault patients and will be responsible for evidence collection in accordance with established protocol.
Patient Ratios
Typical nursing ratios in our emergency department are:
- RN: 1:4-5
- LPN: 1:4-5
- ED Tech: 1:10
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of two years of Emergency Department nursing experience (travel experience excluded)
- For LPN roles, at least two years of experience in any acute care setting is required
- Must possess current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
- Preferred: CPI or MAB/MOAB certifications
Skills Required
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following skills:
- Experience with a wide range of patient types, requiring familiarity with ESI assessments during triage
- Ability to use critical thinking and effective communication to prioritize patient care
- Willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and ask questions as needed
Support & Resources
Staffing support includes:
- ED Techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- Charge nurses on duty both day and night
- Continuous physician coverage, as well as hospitalist and NP support
- Access to 24/7 radiology and pharmacy services
Orientation & Training
New hires will undergo an orientation process consisting of:
- 8 hours of general facility orientation
- 4 hours of ED-specific training
- A minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit
Scheduling
Our emergency department employs variable shifts, and travelers will be utilized to fill scheduling gaps. Potential shift times may include:
- 0630-1900
- 1000-2230
- 1200-0030
- 1400-0200
- 1830-0700
Weekend work may be expected based on staffing needs.
Holiday Expectations & Time Off
Time off requests will be subject to managerial approval. Please note that holiday requests may not be accommodated during the first three weeks of August, when the facility experiences an influx of patients due to local events.
