Description
General Information
We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our Emergency Department team, where we see approximately 150-180 patients daily. The facility is equipped with:
- Main ED: 33 beds
- Trauma/Resuscitation: 8 beds
- Behavioral Health Pod: 4 rooms (can be converted to medical use)
- Five pods with 4 rooms each and a hall bed
- Vertical care area with a waiting room and holding area for ESI 3 and ESI 4 patients
Patient Types
Our Emergency Department caters to a diverse patient population, including:
- Neonates
- Geriatric patients
- Minor to critical cases: Sepsis, DKA, Respiratory Illness, GI bleeds, and trauma.
- Heavy trauma cases, particularly during summer months
- Stroke cases – we can treat strokes up to 24 hours post symptom onset
Roles & Responsibilities
Registered Nurses will be expected to:
- Conduct ESI assessments during triage to determine patient acuity and prioritize care accordingly.
- Provide care for patients across all levels, utilizing critical thinking and effective communication.
- Work collaboratively with permanent staff to manage a wide variety of patient cases, including sexual assault patients, and participate in evidence collection as required.
- Float to inpatient areas as needed, primarily as a task nurse within the scope of practice.
Patient Ratios
The standard patient ratios are as follows:
- Registered Nurse: 1:4-5
- LPN: 1:4-5
- ED Tech: 1:10
Required Certifications
Candidates must possess the following certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- TNCC
- PALS
Additional training in CPI or MAB/MOAB is preferred.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications include:
- Completion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing.
- Two years of experience in the Emergency Department (excluding travel experience); candidates with 1.5 years in the ED plus 2 years in other acute care settings may be considered with approval.
Support on the Unit
The Emergency Department is supported by:
- ED Technicians (1:10 ratio)
- Lead Technicians
- 24/7 physician coverage
- Hospitalist coverage for admitted patients
- NP coverage, also available 24/7
- Radiology and Pharm Tech support
Charting System/Equipment
The facility uses the EPIC charting system. Familiarity with this system is preferred.
Orientation and Scheduling
Orientation consists of:
- 8 hours of Facility NEO
- 4 hours of ED-specific education
- Minimum of 2 shifts in the unit, with more based on availability
Shift patterns include variable shifts, covering days and evenings. Expectation for weekend work may arise based on staffing needs.

This position is available in a vibrant urban area in the Midwest.
