Description
Position Overview
This is a telehealth nursing position requiring proficient tele skills. The role involves providing care for patients primarily in the telemetry unit, focusing on cardiac monitoring and treatment. Nurses will support patients in the emergency department who are awaiting placement in the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments as per physician's orders and protocols.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and cardiac rhythms, including reading and interpreting ECG strips.
- Maintain the ability to titrate cardiac drips as required.
- Assist with patient care activities such as IV starts and administering medications as needed.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality patient care.
- Float to medical-surgical and overflow units as required.
Work Environment
The role will primarily involve working in a telemetry unit, with additional responsibilities in the emergency department. Nurses may encounter patients in various stages of care while they await unit placement.
Shifts & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts (day and night options available).
- Self-scheduling is available but may change periodically.
- Weekend requirement: Four weekend shifts within each four-week schedule.
- Holiday requirement: Rotate with permanent staff.
Qualifications
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a cardiac telemetry unit is strongly preferred.
- Experience with titrating medications, including common drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone.
Onboarding and Orientation
New hires will complete a dysrhythmia exam and a PASS/FAIL simulation lab on the first day of orientation. A brief orientation to medical-surgical and telemetry will also be provided over two shifts.
Additional Notes
Nurses may be asked to assist with vital signs and patient care in the emergency department while not serving as the primary RN for ED patients.
Cancellation Policy
The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts for an assignment of 13 weeks or three shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks.
