Description
Position Description
Join a dynamic and highly skilled team in a 19-bed mixed CVICU/CVRU unit. This unit operates with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:2 or 1:1, depending on patient acuity, while downgraded patients may be assigned a ratio of 1:3. Our dedicated charges nurses and educator are available to support you as you transition into your role.
Unit Information
- Location: Heart Tower, 3rd Floor
- Staffing: 13 day shift RNs and 11 night shift RNs, accompanied by a nurse’s aide on all shifts
- Annual heart surgeries: Approximately 850
- Core nursing staff trained in critical care, heart care, recovery, and device management
- Advanced support from an ECMO team, and regular use of Impella, IABP, and LVADs
- Monitoring and documentation through GE monitors and Cerner EMR
Qualifications
- Required Skills:
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- 2+ years of CVICU or CVRU experience
- Passion for surgical heart care
- High energy and an upbeat personality
- Preferred Skills:
- Certification in Critical Care, Cardiac Surgery, or Recovery Room care
Typical Procedures Performed
- IABP management
- Impella assistance
- Patient hemodynamic monitoring
- Frequent ambulation of patients
- Chest tube and pacer wire removal
- LVADS care (supported by the team)
- Intubation and extubation procedures

Dress Code
Uniform attire consists of navy blue or white scrubs, appropriate nursing shoes, and hair secured off the shoulders. Fake nails are not permitted.
Work Guidelines
Nurses are expected to arrive ready for duty no earlier than 7 minutes before or after the scheduled shift start. Approval from Clinical Nurse Coordinators is required for any overtime.
Work Schedule
Weekends are scheduled every other week, with additional days off included in the contract.
