Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

This position is for a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) located in Dickson, TN. The role involves providing care for mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.

Unit Specifics

• Number of Beds: 9 LDRP beds, 1 OBED bed, 4 NICU beds, 1 OR suite
• Patient Ratios:
  • 1:1 for active labors, inductions, C-sections
  • 1:3 couplet care
  • 1:1 for newborns until stable
  • NICU: 1:3 intermediate care
  • 2 NICU nurses must be present if there are patients.
• Unit Staffing Description: No techs or unit secretaries available.
• Type of Equipment: Central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologist, bili-blankets, PCA pumps.
• Documentation System: Meditech and CPN.
• Floating Policy: Regular staff may be required to float within the facility based on needs.
• Patient Experience Requirements: Daily rounding and safety rounding on all patients.

Qualifications

• Must Have: Labor and delivery experience, including laboring and recovering the mother, and transitioning the newborn. Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other OB emergencies preferred.
• Advanced Skills Needed: Fetal monitoring education and experience with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil).
• Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring training.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a commitment of 3 shifts per week, including rotating weekends and holidays. PRN staff may also be utilized as needed.

Team Environment

The unit is staffed by six seasoned RNs, each with approximately 30 years of experience, who serve as excellent resources and preceptors. Several other nurses have 7-10 years of tenure, contributing to a skilled team ready to assist and support one another. Working on this LDRP unit offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonate care.

Dress Code

Required uniform consists of pink and/or brown scrubs, in alignment with the infant security policy of the unit.
