Unit Information

• Unit Name: Progressive Care Unit
• Number of Beds: 29
• Patient Ratios: 4:1
• Staffing:
  • Day shift includes a unit secretary and 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) based on census.
  • Night shift includes 2-3 PCTs based on census.
• Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn dynamaps, Philips telemetry, Phillips MP2, Pyxis, Alaris pumps, Hill-Rom beds, iMobile devices, MobiLab
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

• 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• Self-scheduling available with some flexibility to maintain balanced staffing.
• Requests for days off can be made prior to the schedule closing.
• Schedules are finalized 2 weeks in advance.
• Block scheduling for night shift can be accommodated.

Floating Policy

• Travel RNs float first, following a rotation based on the oldest float date.

Patient Experience Requirements

This unit delivers specialized care to a diverse patient population, primarily focusing on cardiac and surgical patients requiring intermediate care. Common conditions treated include:

• Sepsis
• Stroke
• Myocardial infarction
• Angina
• Heart failure
• Atrial fibrillation
• Tachycardia
• Heart blocks
• Post-cardiac catheterization
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
• Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
• Diabetes Mellitus with ketoacidosis
• Acute and chronic respiratory failure
• Gastrointestinal bleed
• Pneumonia
• Post-operative day one coronary artery bypass grafting
• Post-operative day one aortic valve surgery
• Post-thoracic surgery
• Post-neurosurgery

Required Skills and Certifications

• Experience: Cardiac and telemetry, with a strong background in Progressive Care Unit or critical care.
• Advanced Skills:
  • IV insertion
  • Chest tube management
  • DHT insertion and management
  • Tracheostomy care
  • CVC management
  • EKG interpretation
  • Foley catheter management
  • Early patient mobility
• Certifications Required: BLS and ACLS

Dress Code

Navy scrubs are required.
