Unit Information
- Unit Name: Progressive Care Unit
- Number of Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios: 4:1
- Staffing:
- Day shift includes a unit secretary and 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) based on census.
- Night shift includes 2-3 PCTs based on census.
- Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn dynamaps, Philips telemetry, Phillips MP2, Pyxis, Alaris pumps, Hill-Rom beds, iMobile devices, MobiLab
- Documentation System: Meditech
Scheduling Requirements
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
- Self-scheduling available with some flexibility to maintain balanced staffing.
- Requests for days off can be made prior to the schedule closing.
- Schedules are finalized 2 weeks in advance.
- Block scheduling for night shift can be accommodated.
Floating Policy
- Travel RNs float first, following a rotation based on the oldest float date.
Patient Experience Requirements
This unit delivers specialized care to a diverse patient population, primarily focusing on cardiac and surgical patients requiring intermediate care. Common conditions treated include:
- Sepsis
- Stroke
- Myocardial infarction
- Angina
- Heart failure
- Atrial fibrillation
- Tachycardia
- Heart blocks
- Post-cardiac catheterization
- Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
- Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
- Diabetes Mellitus with ketoacidosis
- Acute and chronic respiratory failure
- Gastrointestinal bleed
- Pneumonia
- Post-operative day one coronary artery bypass grafting
- Post-operative day one aortic valve surgery
- Post-thoracic surgery
- Post-neurosurgery
Required Skills and Certifications
- Experience: Cardiac and telemetry, with a strong background in Progressive Care Unit or critical care.
- Advanced Skills:
- IV insertion
- Chest tube management
- DHT insertion and management
- Tracheostomy care
- CVC management
- EKG interpretation
- Foley catheter management
- Early patient mobility
- Certifications Required: BLS and ACLS
Dress Code
Navy scrubs are required.
