Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 630 has 34 beds, 633 has 25 beds
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit Staffing: 3 techs when full on 630 and 2 techs when full on 633
• Type of Equipment: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend requirement, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
• Floating Policy: Potential to float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Patient Experience Requirements: Hourly rounding on days, every two-hour rounding on nights, AIDET, and maintaining communication boards on the 7th floor

Qualifications

• Required Skills:
  • Critical thinking skills
  • EKG rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
  • Preferred experience with peritoneal dialysis and peripheral IV skills
• Advanced Skills:
  • ACLS certification
  • Experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and various oxygen delivery systems
  • Care for stroke and post-cardiac catheterization patients
  • Preferred experience with tube feedings and NG/dobhoff tubes

• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Certifications Required

• BLS
• ACLS

• Schedules are created in 4-week increments
