Description
Position Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse for our Cardiac Step Down unit. This position offers an opportunity to care for patients in a dynamic healthcare environment.
General Information
Unit Specifics:
- Number of Beds: 30
- Patient Ratio: 5-6 : 1
- Staffing: Unit clerk on days, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians day & night, Nursing Supervisor, Hospitalists
- Equipment: Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, Philips Telemetry, MP2’s
- Documentation System: Meditech-HCA version
- Medications: WOW with med drawers, PyxisES dispensing system
- Scheduling Requirements: Equivalent of every other weekend (4 weekend shifts/4-week schedule)
- Floating Policy: Floating to other Medical/Surgical areas as needed based on skill mix.
- Patient Experience Requirements: Bedside rounding, hourly rounding with 5P’s checked, reporting known needs to Patient Care Technicians.
Hospital Specifics:
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH
- Requested Skill Set: Cardiac knowledge preferred
- Advanced Skills Needed: Knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips.
- Procedures Performed on Unit: Chest tube management, wound vac management, EKG interpretation.
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs for RNs; ceil blue scrubs for PCTs. T-shirts underneath are permitted in specific colors without graphics.
- No Artificial Nails: Artificial or gel nails/gel nail polish are not allowed.
- Unit Guidelines: Documentation of telemetry application and rhythm strips is required each shift. Emphasis on maintaining a NO PASS ZONE for bed alarms and call lights.
- Awards/Recognition: Various awards and recognitions are celebrated within the organization, highlighting exemplary service.
Qualifications
- Must possess valid ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Preferred experience of at least 2 years in a similar role.

This unit benefits from experienced charge nurses with numerous years of seniority, promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment. Shared governance principles are implemented to enhance nursing practice and decision-making.
